Off The Beaten Track

Getting off the beaten track means getting down and dirty with the bush. Explore the Okavango Delta on a multi-night mokoro trail, sleep out under the stars on the Makgadikgadi salt pans or put in the hard yards exploring every bumpy track of Botswana on a mobile safari.

These options are all about the adventure and interaction with the bush, as well as the bonus of great game viewing. You'll spend your days collecting tales to share around the campfire and your nights wrapped in the sounds of the wild.

Whether you want something more physically active, or just want to feel like a castaway on an island in the Okavango Delta, we can put together something to fit. Here are some suggestions to give you an idea of where we'd start planning from.

"The Leopard Safari was an intense and powerful experience. We loved every minute of it, despite the intense heat. Our guide was passionate about his work and a good leader. Our cook produced tasty and balanced vegetarian meals everyday with such limited means. I was very impressed. And what incredible nature... I didn't think such places still existed on earth. We felt immersed in the cycle of life and death, and it was such a strong experience..."

“Your recommendation of the gorgeous Little Sable felt like the perfect choice for us. The food was delicious and the rooms were nice. The team surprised us with a private dinner under the stars. On gamedrive we were excited to see two our favourites, leopards and wild dogs. We loved our stay and hope to be back one day.”

When we say walk on the wildside, we mean it quite literally! Zambia is famed for being the birthplace of walking safaris and this safari gives you the opportunity to experience the bush more naturally, using all your senses. Two rather luxurious bush camps in South Luangwa followed by an authentic remote island tented camp in the Lower Zambezi provide intimate places from which to base your journey of discovery. These multi-faceted camps offer alternative activities including game drives, canoeing or fishing for a change of pace. Talk to us if you would like to explore the African wilderness without barriers on your next safari.

Some special tips to make the most of your safari:

  • Take the opportunity to walk between the South Luangwa bush camps instead of the vehicle transfer.
  • Test out your walking shoes and socks before you travel to make sure they are comfortable on mixed terrain and consider packing some gaiters for ankle protection.
  • Don't wear bright blue or black in the Zambian parks, both colours attract tsetse flies.

"Your suggestion of staying in different camps in South Luangwa proved to be extremely good because the two areas differ a lot. Mfuwe Lodge was just refurbished, very nice, modern, and very comfortable. Chindeni has a spectacular view from the tent - it was a lovely tent - my favourite. The lady in charge at Mfuwe was absolutely lovely and when we asked her to have the same guide at Chindeni that we had in Mfuwe she was very accommodating. We have been on many safaris so far but this trip in Zambia we had the greatest sightings. In six nights in South Luangwa we saw 8 leopards (Francesco's favourite animal) most of them very close and for quite a long time; a group of 5 wild dogs with 4 playful puppies; a pride of lions eating a buffalo, another pride with cubs and another pride eating a hippo!”
